Gifts Of Time & Talent

Everyone can do something.  Throughout our lives we are supposed to figure that out, and hopefully use those skills to benefit others.  Even if you haven't, the bottom line is that we all have the gift of time - the same number of hours each week to get everything done.  And we need to prioritize those hours so that someone else (outside ourselves or our families) can benefit from even the smallest gift of time of which we are capable.  Work alone or grab a couple of friends - check out some things you may not have even thought of:

 


The Peanut Butter Plan rounds up people around the U.S. to each make 10 peanut butter & jelly sandwiches and give them out to hungry people.  The more people who participate, the more people who are fed.

Teachers - Sign up your classes with The League and teach your students about philanthropy.  Their next big event starts Nov. 7th called The Drive to collect food & clothing.  Information on lessons is available to aid your instruction.

Volunteer Abroad is a great resource of ideas where you can volunteer worldwide.

Voluntouring - Programs for you to volunteer while vacationing.
Some hotels that can help you find projects to get involved in are The Good Hotel in San Francisco, Cotton Tree Lodge in San Felipe, Belize, Hale Ho'okipa Inn in Maui, Hawaii and RockResorts located in Wyoming, New Mexico, St. Lucia and Colorado.

Habitat For Humanity
- Help to build a house, and see how that can change a family.  Their website lists local affiliates that may include your area.  And if not, consider starting one yourself!


Walks For Breast Cancer - All of these are annual events:  Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Komen Race for the Cure, Breast Cancer 3 Day


Walks For The March Of Dimes against birth defects.


Run For The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or Bike in their Scenic Shore 150 Bike Tour.


Read To The Blind.


Teach People To Read.


Be A Big Brother/Big Sister and show a child that someone cares.


Volunteer To Coach - Check with any local school or summer program in your area.


Volunteer At A Soup Kitchen - Listings are in your phone book.


Plant a garden and donate fresh produce to your local food pantries.


Got fruit trees?  Gather your harvest, and give to those less fortunate.
