Trash To Cash |
Who could have imagined that stuff you throw away every day can bring in money to some very worthy causes? I've listed below some things that everyone can do.
Campbell's Soup Labels - All schools participate in the Campbell Soup Program. That allows them to get various school equipment from the exchange of these labels. Click here for a listing of all eligible Campbell's products. Now if you have kids or grandkids in school, it's a no-brainer to save your labels for them. They collect them year-round. But even if you don't have kids, it only makes sense to save them and give them to a school in your area. Remember, if schools can get equipment they need for free, it's that much less that your school taxes have to make up the difference for. You'll benefit in any case.
General Mills Box Tops - Once again, all schools collect them. In this program, the schools receive $.10 in cash for each box top they collect. Besides on cereal boxes, you can also find them on Pillsbury products, frozen food items and even some paper products. Click here for a listing of all eligible products. Not much to think about here.
Greeting Card Recycling - St. Jude's Ranch for Children accepts greeting cards for all occasions and makes them into new cards to raise funds for their programs. Hamburger Helper - Enter codes from boxes of Hamburger Helper at Show Your Helping Hand, and the company will donate $.18 (the price of one meal) for each one entered to Feeding America.
Soda Can Pull Tabs - Most Ronald McDonald House Charities collect the pop tabs from soda cans and other canned food items. According to their website, they've raised over $4 million by selling the tabs for the metal content in them. That's a lot of tabs! Check out their website to see where you can donate your hoard of them. Along with Ronald McDonald House, some local veterans groups, Shriners Organizations (Amvet´s Ladies Auxiliary, 5 South Street, Hudson, MA 01749) and Kiwanas Clubs in your area may also collect them as a fundraiser. Check with your local offices to see if that is an option you might also donate to. Finally, SUNY at Stonybrook also collects tabs for their Camp For Kids Campaign. The money they raise sends kids on dialysis to summer camp. So there are plenty of options for places to send your tabs.
Cancelled Stamps - Your local church parish may collect cancelled stamps to raise money for the missions. If not, both the Texas District Lutheran World Relief Stamporee and the Vegas Viking Lodge collect them for different programs. You can also send them to Stamps for Children, 27 Pine St., Lincroft, NJ 07738. Click on their links to get more information.
Used Fax & Printer Cartridges - And yet another fundraiser for schools - Any model, any brand. They can really add up so send them in.
Old Sneakers - Nike's Reuse A Shoe Program accepts old, worn out sneakers, grinds them up and makes athletic surfaces like basketball courts, tennis courts and running tracks. It doesn't matter what shape they're in (or even how stinky they are!).
